Building FacilitiesThe Mount Horeb Police Department is located at 222 East Front Street in the center of the Village. The police department moved into its new building on January 5, 1998. The building not only contains administrative office space, but also contains a booking area, interview rooms, a conference room, a dispatch area, a large squad room, evidence processing and storage areas, along with an attached police garage. The facility is also set up to serve as an emergency command center should this become necessary. The police department's communication equipment is fully automated to meet the increasing demands of technology. The facility is approximately 5,400 square feet and was remodeled at a cost of $394,000.00. The original structure was built in 1962 and served as the area fire station for many years. Prior to moving into the new facilities, the police department was housed at 138 East Main Street along with the village offices. EquipmentThe Mount Horeb Police Department operates a fleet of fully marked and equipped Chevy Impalas and Ford Crown Victorias. Each squad car is fully equipped with radar, Motorola radios, mobile data terminals, Custom Video Camera systems, mobile telephones and emergency equipment, which includes automated external defibrillation (AED) units. In addition, the department also issues and assigns each officer a portable Motorola radio. The Mount Horeb Police Department is dispatched by the Dane County Communication Center located in Madison, Wisconsin, approximately 20 miles away. In addition, local communications are maintained by the agency's private repeater and during normal business hours, the department is dispatched by both the communication center and administrative staff.Patrol The Mount Horeb Police Department is a full service 24 hour a day police department. A staff of ten full-time and seven part-time officers serve the Village of Mount Horeb. All officers are responsible for patrol duties in addition to their assigned special tasks. The department consists of: Chief Scott Sterland, Lieutenant Jeff Veloff, Detective Patrick Piper, Officers Timothy Milas, Jon Orcutt, Sue Kroger, Robie Blankenship, Blaine Hall, Matthew Kakuske, and Nate Gretzinger. Each officer is highly trained and is given additional training in their special assignments. The department patrols approximately four square miles and serves a population estimated in excess of 6,000 people. The department is also expected to grow as the needs for service increase. The department's calls for service are increasing every year, with new records being set each year. The department strives to provide small town services to an ever-increasing population. |
